Electronics for 5"gauge Charlatan

I need to upgrade the electronic speed controller on my Charlatan.I have asked 4qd but they need to know lots of info (eg top speed ,no of passengers etc)It is 24v with 4 motors.I bought it second hand without any paperwork.Does anyone know which 4qd controller will suit this loco.Many thanks.

how many amps do the motors typically draw under the kind of conditions you run?

Try contacting Blackgates Engineering. They came to the rescue when the electronics in my old Charlatan gave up.

The biggest problem with the charlatan is the speed. We regeared one a number of years ago and it was geared for about 15mph. The problem with this is that the motors and speed controller are constantly working hard. this means you need a controller that is well and truly on top of the job, something in the region of 300Amps. (4 x 250w motors will draw 60amps a piece when stalled) re geared to a sensible speed then something in the 200A region would be adequate.
