Paint for Frames and Buffers

Gentlemen I am very near to painting my frames and buffers for my 7 ¼ G Hunslet, would someone be so kind as to confirm what is the best paint, colours etc. to paint the frames and buffers, I thought I would use red for the inside of the frames, black for the outside and of course red for the buffer beams, any advice would be most appreciated

Buffer beams should be RAL 3001 also known as 'signal red'. My frames are the same colour inside. I had aerosol spray paint made up for me at an automotive paint supplier. The black on my frames was powder coated, but you have a wide choice of paint finishes you could apply instead of powder coating. Spraying over powder coating is fine provided you remove the gloss finish with emery first and clean it before spraying. Tried to add photo of my painted chassis but website won't upload it. I believe others have had problems too.

A word to the wise. Be careful with powder coating. It can be adversely affected by heat. Make sure you get the supplier to do it in the high temp stuff, for a steam engine.
