Stiff Regulator

One of our members is the owner of I think the fairly well known
Loco Sgt. Murphy with a very stiff regulator. We do not have any
drawings of boiler or boiler fittings. We understand the boiler was built by Martin Heys of Heys/Mathews.If anyone has any info
or/and drawings of the regulator assy.we would be most grateful.

Lew, I suffered from this problem with my Romulus. Over time the regulator got very stiff and in the end made smooth driving difficult. On stripping out the gland I found that the packing had just dried out, I didn't even replace it (perhaps I should have) but just moved it about and applied some steam oil. All is now well, and even the kids can manage it again.

I was taught to put a drop of cylinder oil on the throttle stem at least once a day. Same thing for all valve stems, piston and valve rods too.

In my case, for some unknown reason, said drops of steam oil had failed to penetrate as far as the inside of the gland packing.

Thanks for the replies Gents, but the reason we are asking for info is that the Loco does not have the any of the steam glands that we are used to,it apears to just have a bearing?
