I wish to fit caliper brakes to a 0-4-0 electric loco. Does anyone know where I can purchase a suitable caliper for use on the axle. I do not want an ex motor car fitting

Hi Jack, Have you looked at push bike calipers as they are small, but they only work on a cable unless you can fit a cylinder to it.

Further to Stephens comments some cycle disc brake systems are now hydraulic.
Also try looking at Paul Middleton's www.rideonrailways.co.uk as I saw he is now stocking disc brake calipers.

Jack,
Both ourselves at Leyland SME and Southampton club have found the HB calipers from http://www.robertcupitt.co.uk/hb.htm to be very good. If you contact them they are very helpful and will advise you of the particular ones we used and what might be most suitable for your application.

Cheers, Trevor collyer.
