smokebox temperature

Hello, I am trying to find what temperature a smokebox would reach on a working loco,I am wanting to seal a part welded Tommi 2 box.
most silicon oven sealers go up to 300c, I would appreciate any comments Graham.

I have no idea what temperature it gets too (other than VERY hot) but I would recommend that you completed the welding rather than bodged it. For the area where the blastpipe enters (where you cannot weld it) use fire clay, which resists 1200c.

thanks for the reply, I had considered doing a full weld but afraid of distortion in the smokebox door area. Graham

any other Tomi 2 builders out there what did you do? Graham

If distortion's an issue, turn the welder down, and use stick in preference to MIG.
