1950 Myford ML7 Lathe

I recently bought this lathe and the motor General Electric Type11F65A Motor is switched by a Santon SR149A switch. My problem is that the motor runs the lathe in the reverse direction and the person who I bought the lathe from is no longer with us. I have read that you can change the direction of rotation in American motors by swapping two wires. The motor has 4 wires L1, L2, 3 & 4 and they appear to be in pairs indicating 2 windings. can anyone confirm this or tell me what to do.

You are correct. Both the armature and the field are wound. So swapping the connections to either pair of wires should reverse the magnetic field from that coil. Try changing the connections to wires 3 and 4, so that 3 connects where 4 is now, and 4 is where 3 is now.

Thanks George I have altered 3 and 4 connections and it now runs satisfactory.
