Railway Tourist Info Wanted

Bonjour a tous - I have a french friend who is coming over to the UK in May on holiday. He is President of our 7-1/4" club in Vannes - Séné Rail Miniature - and would like to visit some railways - either miniature or full-size - whilst he is 'en vacances'. His base is Nottingham, which is a bit off my patch - I used to live in Hampshire before I moved to Brittany - so I'm not sure what to recommend.

Any suggestions for steam attractions he could visit, within say 1 hour's drive of Nottingham, would be much appreciated.

Amicalement

Martin

Martin a good source of info is this link http://livesteamtracks.info/?markerid=UK-ENG-NSMEE this will centre on Nottingham SMEE but you can pull out and see other tracks too. Brighouse is a little over your hour limit but he would be welcome to visit.

Just be mindful that a lot of clubs are only open normally 1 or 2 days a week unless prior contact made.

In the village of Ruddington just a few miles south of Nottingham is the site belonging to NOTTINGHAM SOCIETY OF MODEL AND EXPERIMENTAL ENGINEERS. This is probably one of the foremost tracks in the Midlands with ground level 7.1/4 inch + elevated 5 inch and i well worth a visit. Best to go on a Sunday when public running takes place.
See www.nsmee.org/uk
Further afield but not too far is the annual HARROGATE MODEL ENGINEERING EXHIBITION one of the best UK shows held from Friday May 10 - Sunday 12th May.

Just a line to say 'thanks' for your various suggestions, all of which have been passed on.
