Lineside Cables

Where do you bury low voltage cables. Alongside or underneath the track and how far down.

At Millerbeck the low voltage cabling was buried just under the turf. This for various reasons kept popping up and getting damage by mowers or other works. The signalling system has now been re-done with trunking well underground man hole points and pull cables. These trunks contain 12V, 24V, camera cables, air ring main, mains. With the benefit of pull cables new lines can be added or alterations made without future digging. I think over the years the extra work will pay dividends in not having to dig up everywhere.

From the central point on the ducting loop there are small distribution boards and the air solenoids just work the points local to that distribution board. We have the ability to feed the air ring main from various point and can shut off sections in an emergency.
