HSE introduce “Fee for Intervention”
The Health and Safety Executive have announced that as from 1st October 2012 they will charge for any investigation that results from a Breach of Material Law. This will be at the initial rate of £124 per hour on all time spent on an investigation.
They are hoping to raise over £40 million in first year alone. An average small case will be 6 – 8 hours.
Model Engineers will not be exempt from this fee –and the main areas that could involve the hobby are:
Toilets and adequate washing facilities.
Guarding of machinery
Pressure Vessel regulations.
