First Prize at The Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition Autumn 2023
The prize winning locomotive was displayed on the 7 1/4 inch gauge Society stand at the Midlands Engineering exhibition. The locomotive is Bruce Harvey’s absolutely superb LNER N2 tank, which has been at Alexandra Palace in a part-built state for several years. It is, of course, standard gauge. Bruce is a young man, now 28, who started it as an engineering apprentice 6 years or so ago. He uses all the modern engineering techniques such as laser cutting, CNC machining, CAD drawing and 3D printing, and the locomotive is of the highest standard. It was entered in the competition in Class 3, “Locomotives 5" & 7¼" gauges & above”, and, deservedly won First Prize in this section. See further images of the event in the gallery. -

Successful Mini Gala at Cinderbarrow
We would like to thank Lancaster and Morecombe Model Engineering Society for hosting the 7 1/4" Gauge Society mini gala at the Cinderbarrow track last Saturday and Sunday. The weather was reasonably kind to us, with odd showers of rain. We had a number of visiting engines with members and friends who arrived from various areas. They were very well looked after throughout the weekend by LMMES. Everyone who attended enjoyed a good running event and a social occasion. -

Change in 2023 AGM Venue
Due to logistical and human resources the Woking Miniature Railway Society Ltd (Mizens Railway) will be unable to host the 2023 AGM and Gathering of the 7 1/4" Gauge Society Ltd. We thank Mizens very much for having offered to host the AGM. At very short notice the committee of the Bedford Model Engineering Society have agreed to host the AGM and Gathering on the same weekend as previously announced, 15th-17th September 2023. We are extremely grateful to the Bedford Club who have made great efforts to accommodate us. The booking form, giving further details of the weekend will be issued with the Summer edition of the NEWS, which will also give further information about the railway. Information will also be available on line. The committee deeply regrets any inconvenience this late change of venue will cause members, however it is outside our control and we are sure that everyone who attends will have a very satisfactory and enjoyable event at Bedford. -
